If you are a student you should already have received this notification by email to your Queen's email address. This message is for general information.

This notification is to advise you that the new Queen’s AI Policy and Guidance has just been published. Along with that policy we have updated the guidance in the Academic Malpractice Policy as well.

Both policies (and the new assignment coversheet with AI declaration) can be found on Moodle here:

Course: Academic Policies, Section: Queen's academic policy documents

Further information about the policies and their implementation:

  •  The new policy applies to all assignments submitted for modules where the teaching for that module began in the Spring term, 2026
  •  For modules where teaching began before the Spring term 2026, the previous academic malpractice policy still applies. You are welcome to work to the new policies if you wish to.
  • These policies apply to all students at The Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education (Queen’s) on programmes validated by:
    • Durham University (Common Awards)
    • Birmingham Newman University

This policy also applies to Queen’s students who are:

    • on a Not for Credit (NFC) programme
    • on a taster course
    • required to complete assessments as part of their formational programme
    • completing work for postgraduate research (PGR) accreditation.
  • The new AI Policy and Guidance is to be read and understood in conjunction with the Academic Malpractice Policy. The AI policy does contain extensive guidance about different uses of generative AI, and also sections about the ethics and associated questions around AI use.
  •  You will be aware that every time you submit an assignment you are asked to make a declaration that you have read the Academic Malpractice Policy. You will now also have to make an AI declaration on the coversheet of each assignment that you submit.
  •  The new coversheet will be on each module page in the assignment submission section and can also be found on Moodle here: Section: Moodle 3: submitting assignments | Help | Moodle | Queen's and here: Course: Academic Policies, Section: Queen's academic policy documents
  •  Further guidance about how to complete the AI declaration on the coversheet will follow soon.
