The 2016 Common Awards Student Conference

The 2016 Common Awards Student conference will start with lunch at 1pm on Tuesday 19 July, and conclude with lunch at 1pm on Thursday 21 July. The conference will be held at the College of St Hild and St Bede, Durham University: https://www.dur.ac.uk/hild-bede/
The theme of the conference this year is Jesus.

The aim of the conference is to bring together students studying on Common Awards courses from across the country, to join together in discussion and worship, and to hear from leading theologians, biblical scholars and speakers working in mission and ministry.
A full timetable will be available soon. The conference will include talks and interactive sessions with scholars at the forefront of theology and biblical studies today. Speakers will include:
- Richard Bauckham, Professor Emeritus at the University of St Andrews and Senior Scholar at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. Professor Bauckham is a biblical scholar and theologian with a particular interest in Jesus and the Gospels. His books include: Jesus: A Very Short Introduction (2011); Jesus and the God of Israel (2008); and Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony (2006).
- Walter Moberly, Professor at Durham University. Professor Moberly is interested in the intersections of Old Testament studies, theology, ethics and spirituality. His books include: Old Testament Theology: Reading the Hebrew Bible as Christian Scripture (2013) and The Bible, Theology, and Faith: A Study of Abraham and Jesus (2000).
There will also be chances to meet, socialise, worship and pray with students from across the different Common Awards institutions.
The conference is open to all students on Common Awards courses. Accommodation for the Tuesday and Wednesday nights, all meals and the conference sessions are free. A travel bursary of £50 is available for each student attending; you can indicate whether you need this bursary on the registration form. If you have travel costs that exceed this bursary, and these costs will prevent you from attending the conference due to hardship, you will be able to apply for an additional bursary amount.
