Dear Students,
Further to the publication of the new Queen’s AI Policy and Guidance and the Queen’s Coversheet with AI declaration we have received lots of feedback from students which has been helpful to hear.
I have two updates which will, hopefully, help all students as you navigate the new policies:
- The updated Queen’s Coversheet with AI declaration has been causing some students issues and so we have updated it (Feb 2026). It now contains clearer guidance on how to complete it and there are no longer any restrictions on formatting. The coversheet is available on Moodle (links below) AND on every module page in the Assignment Submission section.
- We have produced some video guidance to help you understand and complete the new coversheet and AI declaration. This guidance will also show you how the AI declaration links to the different sections of the AI Policy and Guidance and how to understand them both. The video is a 15-minute watch. It runs through the coversheet from the top, in order, so you should be able to skip through to the sections you are most interested in. The video is on Moodle (links below) and directly linked here:
The policies, the newly updated (February 2026) coversheet and the video can be found on Moodle in two places:
Section: Queen's academic policy documents | Academic Policies | Moodle | Queen's
Section: Moodle 3: submitting assignments | Help | Moodle | Queen's
If you have any questions about the policies or the coversheet please feel free to ask me or direct enquires to Registry in general, even if we cannot answer your question we can refer you to someone who can help you.
Further information about the policies and their implementation (this is the same information as circulated previously):
- The new policies apply to all assignments submitted for modules where the teaching for that module began in the Spring term, 2026
- For modules where teaching began before the Spring term 2026, the previous academic malpractice policy still applies although you are welcome to work to the new policies if you wish to.
- These policies apply to all students at The Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education (Queen’s) on programmes validated by:
- Durham University (Common Awards)
- Birmingham Newman University
- These policies also apply to Queen’s students who are:
- on a Not for Credit (NFC) programme
- on a taster course
- required to complete assessments as part of their formational programme
- completing work for postgraduate research (PGR) accreditation.
- The new AI Policy and Guidance is to be read and understood in conjunction with the Academic Malpractice Policy. The AI policy contains extensive guidance about different uses of generative AI, and also sections about the ethics and associated questions around AI use.
Best wishes,
Katie Cooper
