We are looking for volunteers from the following cohorts to act as student academic representatives:
- Readers
- Probationers
- QDC year 1 (Undergraduate)
Academic reps help ensure the broader student voice is part of Queen's academic review and planning. They gather feedback from their student cohort and work with other student reps to ensure student concerns and proposals are shared with staff, especially during Academic Management Group meetings, where a wide range of academic issues are discussed. Academic reps are also part of the Academic Quality and Standard Group, which looks at module reviews and does more detailed work.
Please note the following dates (although we recognise you may not be able to attend every date). Meetings take place in the afternoon with online attendance.
Dates for the meetings scheduled for this year are as follows
- 26th November 2024 – AMG
- 21st January 2025 – AQSG
- 11th March 2025 – AQSG
- 25th March 2025 – AMG
- 10th June 2025 – AQSG
- 24th June 2025 - AMG
I've greatly enjoyed the experience and am very glad that I volunteered for the role. The best things about being an Academic Rep are:
· It made me feel far more involved with the Queen's community. This is important when we might come onto campus infrequently.
· It has made me appreciate just how much thought Queen's puts into academic standards and assessment across an amazing variety of courses and cohorts. The module evaluation process exemplifies this.
· The AMG, in particular, gives you a great insight into how the wider Common Awards scheme works.
Also, the role really isn't too much of a burden on top of the academic work. When people are trying to entice you to do something like this, they always promise that it won't be too onerous - but that rarely turns out to be the case in practice. However, the small amount of extra work required of an Academic Rep is massively outweighed by the benefits I've listed above.
If you want to know more about the role, or are happy to volunteer, please email registry@queens.ac.uk.
Thank you
