A Message from Registry for Newman and Durham (Common Awards) Students

Here are four reminders about some key academic matters:

1. Your student email address

All communications from Queen's regarding your academic programme and submission of assignments will be sent to you using your Queen’s email address. Please make sure you have access to the email account and check it regularly. Your Moodle account profile should also be set up with your Queen's email address.

If you, for any reason, do not have access to your queens.ac.uk email address then please contact registry@queens.ac.uk and we will help you with that.

2. Student Advantage and requesting extensions

All students have a Student Advantage account. This is your view of our database and allows you to see the academic programme and modules that you have been enrolled on, module teaching dates and assessment deadlines etc.

If you need to request an extension for an assignment you do this on Student Advantage (as long as it is your first extension request for that component) and the request is automatically sent to your Personal Tutor for approval. Please make sure you submit your extension requests before your deadline.

If you, for any reason, do not have access to your Student Advantage Account then please contact registry@queens.ac.uk and we will help you with that.

3. Academic Handbooks

Most answers to your questions about academic matters will be found in the Academic Handbook, you can access the appropriate handbook on Moodle here:

Newman Handbook

Durham Handbook

4. Submitting assessments on Moodle

When you are submitting an assignment, please ensure that you name the file correctly. You must include your student number.

  • The file name should be the course code and component number, followed by your Queen's student number. For example: TMM3031(QDC)C1 S000000.pdf or QFM626(PROB)C2 S00000.pdf
  • The file must be in PDF format

If you feel unsure about how to submit your assignment, please look at the Moodle help section here: Moodle help with Assignment Submission

If you have any technical difficulties submitting an assignment contact registry@queens.ac.uk for help.

Finally, just to add that the Registry team (Katie Cooper and Gill Masters) are available from 9.00am-5.00pm, Monday-Friday.  If you need to you can phone us on 0121 454 1527 (press option 2 for Registry), or drop into the office if you are on campus. We may be quite busy, but we are always happy to see or speak to you!

Best wishes,
