aThis course is designed for post-graduate students who will be conducting a piece of independent research, usually an MA or sometimes a PhD dissertation (although students not doing a dissertation occasionally take this course).

The course aims to introduce a range of possible research methods - both theological and social science oriented - that are commonly used in the kinds of projects students at Queen's undertake (but by no means all possible methods!).   It is also designed to enable students to work on developing their own research topics, week by week, by using the content of the course and thinking through what it would mean to adopt each week's method or approach to the student's topic.  Much of this latter work is done in small groups that meet throughout the duration of the course.

A variety of tutors share expertise from their distinctive research backgrounds.  Pre-reading supports the lectures, and the assignments are specifically designed to help students develop their own research proposals and methods/methodology.
